Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarships’ goal is to provide funding for coursework and/or research at the world’s best universities and colleges for up to two years (and in select cases up to three years). Ramsay Scholarships provide support for tuition and living expenses comparable to global prestigious awards.

Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarships
Mr Paul Ramsay, the Ramsay Centre’s founder, generously established the Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarships. Paul Joseph Ramsay was a philanthropist and businessman from Australia. Paul Ramsay’s $3 billion bequest established the Paul Ramsay Foundation as Australia’s largest philanthropic foundation. The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation opened in 2017, thanks to a bequest from Ramsay.
The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation,s Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarships assist exceptional, thoughtful, and imaginative youth. The students will have admission to the world’s best universities (e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Harvard, Yale, Bologna, the Sorbonne etc.) and colleges. Scholarships for graduate study abroad are available to Australian citizens on an annual basis. Ramsay scholarships are subdivided into two categories:
- World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship
- St John’s College, Annapolis, Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship
World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship
World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship helps young Australians pursue graduate studies at the world’s best universities (e.g., Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Harvard, Princeton, Bologna, and so on) for one, two, or three years of graduate coursework and/or research. The experience of studying abroad at some of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions is unlike any other.

The vast majority of scholarships will go to students pursuing graduate studies at the world’s best universities abroad. The following are the befits of the World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship:

Application Process
Before submitting an application for the World Universities Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship, students must have secured a place in a graduate programme abroad. To apply for the scholarship, you must:
- Provide proof that you have been accepted into one or more of the graduate programmes for which you applied, with a start date of 2022. Make a list of three.
- If you are applying for a research programme, you must also include your research proposal.
- Provide an academic summary of your professional history (institutions and degrees earned), including certified transcripts and awards.
- Please submit a 2-page CV (including work experience, community service and leadership, and other noteworthy non-academic activities)
- Provide the contact information for three referees.
- Provide proof of Australian citizenship (or permanent residency)
St John’s College Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship
You should be prepared for a world-class education that will challenge you to think like some of history’s most brilliant philosophers, poets, and scientists. St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, is committed to restoring the original concept of liberal education through the “great books.” These books are the most important teachers because they express the ideas that govern modern life, knowingly or unknowingly, in the most original and often perfect way.
Up to six Australians are supported each year by the Ramsay Scholarship to:
- pursue a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts at St John’s, focusing on great books of the Western canon
- participate in an internship programme in an area of interest in Washington, D.C.
St. John’s College

St. John’s College is a private liberal arts college in Annapolis, Maryland, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. St. John’s is one of the country’s oldest institutions of higher learning. The college’s graduate institute offers two master’s degrees: one in liberal arts, which is a modified version of the undergraduate curriculum (the main difference being that graduate students are not restricted to a set sequence of courses), and one in Eastern Classics. A limited number of scholarships may be awarded to students pursuing the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts at St John’s College, Annapolis, with a focus on the great books of the Western canon. In their second year, Ramsay Scholars at St John’s College will have the opportunity to intern in Washington, DC.

Application Process
Apply to the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts programme at St. John’s Graduate Institute. If you are accepted to St. John’s, you will be able to apply for the Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship, which will open on February 1, 2023. Prepare to move to the United States and begin your course in August 2023 with the help of St. John’s and Ramsay Centre staff.
