Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships Overview
Every year, the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to support international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and more than 180 other countries. The recipient is selected by the awarding body, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS).
The Swiss government’s Excellence Scholarships are aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed their master’s or doctoral studies and at foreign artists with bachelor’s degrees.
Types of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships
1. Research Scholarships
Research scholarships are awarded for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, and two federal institutes of technology, as well as four research institutes. The scholarship is offered to students who hold at least a master’s degree and are planning to fly to Switzerland in order to pursue research or further studies at doctoral or postdoctoral levels.

2. Art Scholarships
Art scholarships are awarded to study at any Swiss conservatory or art university. This scholarship is only available to students from a limited number of countries. The scholarships are open to art students who wish to pursue an initial master’s degree in Switzerland.

Criteria
- Applicants must not be older than 35 years on 31 December 2022.
- Have a research proposal including a timeframe.

- This scholarship is not a salary.
