The government of Wales offers a limited number of full-fee part-time DBA scholarships to those conducting research in the field of Value-Based Health and Care. The scholarships offered are for a doctor of business administration.
The Swansea School of Management DBA is a part-time professional doctorate designed for senior managers and leaders in all sectors, including private, public, and non-profit organizations.

Learners in this program conduct applied research, applying established and cutting-edge theories to practical organizational issues. You will advance and enrich practice in your field while also contributing to our understanding of the work’s theoretical foundation.
The Swansea DBA’s structured approach is based on six modules spread over three years, combining lectures, guest talks, workshop discussions, and student presentations. The doctoral thesis is developed concurrently under the supervision of a doctoral supervisory team assigned at the start of the program.
The Swansea School of Management DBA is intended to cultivate critical thinkers and practitioners who will reflect on their impact on their organizations and society as a whole.
Eligibility Criteria for Welsh Government Part-Time DBA Scholarship
- Candidates for the DBA must normally have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a minimum classification of upper second (2:1) or equivalent.
- Applicants must also have, or be pursuing, a master’s degree or a comparable level of qualification from an accredited university.
- Candidates will typically be expected to have at least five years of experience in a senior position.
- All candidates will be interviewed by two members of the program leadership team (typically including the program director) and must demonstrate the drive and intellectual ability to pursue the DBA.
- If applicable, IELTS 6.5 Overall (with no individual component below 6.5) or Swansea recognized equivalent is required. The Swansea University English Language Admissions Policy can be found here.
Admissions decisions may be based on factors other than academic qualifications, such as (but not limited to) the standard of the research synopsis/proposal, performance at the interview, the intensity of competition for limited places, and relevant professional experience.
Funding
The scholarship provides students with a substantial financial advantage as it pays the whole cost of tuition for the DBA program. The DBA is appropriate for working professionals because it is designed as a part-time program. With six modules spread over three years and twice-yearly intensive teaching blocks, the program enables students to balance their academic work with their occupational obligations.

- Two references, one each from an academic or former job, on letterhead or the Swansea University reference form. Please be aware that we are unable to accept references that mention personal/private email addresses, such as Hotmail. Referees should provide their employment email address so that it can be verified.
- Proof that you’ve mastered the English language requirement (if applicable).
- A copy of the UK resident visa (if applicable)
