University of British Columbia International Scholars Program

The International Scholars Program at UBC offers four prestigious need-and-merit-based awards. Based on the data in the application, it will be decided which award(s) a student is qualified for when nominated for the International Scholars Program.

The International Scholars Program at the University of British Columbia was created for exceptional international students who are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree there. The programme offers a welcoming community for international students as well as a variety of academic and social activities to support their academic success and cultural acculturation.

Students must have been accepted to UBC, demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, exhibit leadership qualities, engage in extracurricular activities, and have a history of community service to be eligible for the programme. All students may enroll in the programme, with the exception of those from Canada and the United States.

Eligibility

The International Scholars Program offers exceptional international students at UBC the chance to improve their academic experience and forge strong relationships with peers and mentors.

  • You must be an international student who has been granted a study permit to study in Canada.
  • You must be transferring from your first year of a post-secondary college or another university, or you must be entering UBC from a recognized secondary school.
  • You must have completed high school no earlier than the academic year for which you are applying.
  • Your application for your first undergraduate degree must be submitted.
  • You must show that you have achieved academically (achieve all As or equivalent standards).
  • The English Language Admission Standard as well as general and degree-specific requirements are among the requirements for admission to UBC.
  • You must show that your financial situation is such that it would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a degree at UBC. (UBC automatically considers all international students for the merit-based Outstanding International Student Awards and International Major Entrance Scholarships, which have a combined annual maximum value of $25,000 each. You are qualified to apply for the International Scholars Program if this sum is insufficient to cover your needs for tuition and essential living costs.)

Deadlines

You must have turned in your International Scholars Program application by November 15.
